Looking back at the international conference Polymer Composites 2019
Another year of the traditional International conference Polymer Composites was held on May
15-16th in the Congress LH Hotel Dvorak in Tabor. The conference was organized by the Society for Technical Support and Promotion of Polymer Composites (www.polymer-composites.cz) in cooperation with the Sub branch Mechanics of of Composite Materials and Structures, SYNPO Pardubice, Havel Composites Svésedlice, STTA Plzeň and CTU, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial School of Mechanical and Building inTábor.
The conference was opened by the mayor of city Tábor, who was the patron of the event. In a short performance he was pleased that Tabor became a venue for a important international event and he introduced to participants the city’s attractions and charming surroundings.
96 experts from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary (representatives of the cooperating Association EMSz), Germany, Austria, Poland, Ukraine, Italy, England, France and Turkey took part in the conference. There were presented 24 papers – 2 plenary lectures, 2 in the section Design and Analyses, 7 in the section Technology and Applications, 9 in the section Materials, Properties, Testing and 4 in special section Company presentations. Five works from universities and research institutes were presented in the poster section. Six companies used the offer the presentation in the form of exhibition space.
Very interesting were two plenary lectures: Contribution “Myths and Reality in Properties and Applications of Composite Materials in Mechanical Engineering” by Prof. Růžička from CTU Prague and by Ing. Uher from CompoTech Plus discussed in detail several basic aspects of using polymer composites often as irreplaceable materials in competition with traditional metals. Second plenary lecture by Prof. Schledjewski of Montanuniversität Leoben “Infusion and injection technology – a wide range of versatile and promising processing technologies” was a perfect overview of the benefits and challenges of using individual closed technologies for modern composite production.
Contributions in individual sections were devoted mainly to advanced matrix materials with high heat resistance and excellent strength characteristics combined with carbon fibers and advanced technologies, especially for series production and special applications. An important and welcome contribution of the conference were, apart from its own professional program, the meetings of experts from a number of workplaces and countries during informal discussions and a successful social evening, where the flawless organization and culinary background of the Dvořák Hotel has a significant share. The simultaneous interpretation of lectures provided by TYDA philological experts was also highly appreciated.
PC 2019 was highly appreciated both by lecturers and participants in terms of professional level and the course of the event, it is possible that next year’s PC 2021 will be held again in Tábor.
